“The real preparation for education is a study of one’s self. The training of the teacher is far more than a learning of ideas. It includes the training of a character; it is a preparation of the spirit.”

Maria Montessori

Our Montessori school is a broad educational approach for children from the surrounding villages of Perumalmalai. It is based on the observation of the children’s needs, their natural learning tendencies as they unfold in “prepared environment” for multi-age groups.

At our school the Montessori environment contains specially designed materials for development that invite children to engage in learning activities of their own individual choice. The children learn by making discoveries with materials, cultivating concentration, motivation, self-discipline and a love of learning.

The main components of our Montessori Method are self-motivation and freedom of learning. We believe that a child will learn naturally, if put in an environment containing the proper materials. Here in the classroom our teachers try to reverse the traditional system of an active teacher instructing a passive class. The teachers also train their children with some physical exercises, in accordance with their belief that speed abilities should be developed along with sensory and intellectual capacities.

The children between age 2/2- 5/2 possess an absorbent mind. This almost genius capacity for mental absorption enables them to learn their native language, to perfect movement and internalize order. We observed that children also experience sensitive periods in their development. These are periods of special sensitivity when the child is attracted to certain stimuli in his or her environment allowing them to acquire certain knowledge and skills.
